Winger: 1987 - Winger (Sahara)

Sahara estaba compuesta por el vocalista/bajista Kip Winger y el teclista Paul Taylor, quienes estuvieron juntos en la banda en vivo de Alice Cooper, en la gira del disco Constrictor. El guitarrista Reb Beach ingresó a la banda. Kip y Reb se conocían después de trabajar juntos en estudio. Para terminar la formación, ingresó el baterista Rod Morgenstein.

Poquísimo tiempo antes de publicar su primer disco, cambiaron su nombre a Winger, y se puede apreciar que en la portada del disco, sale el nombre antiguo de la banda. Finalmente, el disco fue publicado en 1988, habiendo firmado con Atlantic, y contando con la producción de Beau Hill (ex-miembro de Airborne).

A pesar de las ventas y éxito de su siguiente disco, éste es mi preferido en toda la discografía. Recomiendo todas las canciones, en especial Higher and higher y Hungry.

En el primer año, Winger dio una gira por norte américa, con Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, King's X, Cinderella y Bulletboys.

Por otra parte, Reb Beach, ayudó con la guitarra en demos de la banda Trik blue.

Winger: 1991 - In the heart of the young

Quizás superando el éxito de su disco anterior, en 1990, publican In the heart of the young. El disco sigue perfectamente la línea del anterior, refiriendome al estilo. También lo recomiendo, en especial por la balada Miles away, que fue adoptada por familiares de militares que luchaban en la guerra del Golfo.

En plena gira, Taylor se retira de la banda. Su reemplazo fue John Roth.

Winger: 1993 - Pull

En 1993, publican Pull. Disco que fue molido por la crítica. A mi gusto, tiene un sonido mucho más maduro que los anteriores y, en ocasiones, es más pesado; recomiendo Spell I'm under, Junkyard dog (tears on stone) y No man's land. Pero bueno, los críticos de la época esperaban otro estilo.

Luego del disco, la banda se separa.

Morgenstein, por su parte, había vuelto con Dixie Dregs, y después crea Rudes Morgentein project.

Beach y Taylor se reencontraron en la banda en vivo de Alice Cooper, en 1997, y anunciaron que tenían intensiones de reformar a Winger.

Por otra parte, Reb Beach estuvo haciendo unas presentaciones con la banda Reb Beach trio. Después ingresó a Dokken, grabando el disco Erase the slate. Mientras que Kip Winger, comenzó una carrera como solista, publicando el disco This conversation seems like a dream.

En el año 2000, luego de que Reb Beach dejara Dokken, corrieron los rumores de una reunión de Winger. Para el siguiente año, publicaron The very best of Winger, que fue un compilado e incluía las canciones Without warning y Written in the wind (ambas incluídas en el primer disco de Khymera).

En el año 2001, se publica el compilado The very best of Winger, que incluye la nueva canción On the inside.

Winger: 2006 - IV

Durante el año 2005, Kip Winger, Reb Beach y Rod Morgenstein, aparecieron en el disco de Xcarnation, Grounded.

En mayo del año 2006, Kip Winger, Reb Beach, Paul Taylor y Rod Morgenstein, revivieron a Winger. Firmaron con el sello italiano Frontiers y trabajaron en su siguiente disco. Presentando al nuevo guitarrista John Roth, junto al teclista Cenk Eroglu.

En octubre del 2006, publican el disco IV. Este disco, marca un estilo más pesado con respecto a las anteriores entregas.

Winger cantó el cover de Journey, Send her my love, en el disco 80's metal tribute to Journey.

En marzo del año 2007, se incluyó una versión acústica de la canción Headed for a heartbreak, en el disco Vh1 metal mania stripped volume 3.

En julio, la banda apareció en Rocklahoma, junto a Ratt, Vince Neil, Warrant, Slaughter, Quiet riot, Poison, Dokken, Jackyl, Faster pussycat, Enuff z'nuff, Steelheart, 36 inches, Y&t, Firehouse, Bulletboys, Bang tango y Great white.
