Fm: 1986 - Indiscreet

La reconocida y prolífica banda británica de Aor Fm, inicia sus andanzas en el '84, con los hermanos Steve y Chris Overland, vocalista y guitarrista, respectivamente, quienes fueron miembros de Wildlife. El bajo estaría a cargo de Merv Goldsworthy, en la batería Pete Jupp, siendo ambos miembros previos de Samson y, por último, el ejemplar teclista Phil Manchester, conocido también bajo el pseudónimo de Didge Digital.

En diciembre de ese mismo año, formalizan contrato con la casa disquera Portait, para éste, su primer lanzamiento, del cual, Frozen heart consigue un buen sitial en el chart británico.

Durante todo éste tiempo correspondiente al debut de la banda, no se hicieron esperar los acompañamientos en las giras europeas de íconos como Meat loaf, Foreigner, Tina Turner, Gary Moore, Reo speedwagon, Bon jovi, entre otros.

Discografía dedicada a mi "hermano rocker menor", Bryan Portnoy, quien amablemente compartió conmigo uno de los álbumes que integran ésta maravillosa e indispensable discografía.

Fm: 1989 - Though it out

Después de las extenuantes giras, Fm estuvo preparado para su segunda producción discográfica, ésta vez con el sello Epic, en la cual, Desmond Child participa como co-escritor y Neil Kernon (productor de Dokken) en la producción.

Los temas Bad luck, Tough it out y Every time I think of you, se alzaron con buena difusión.

Fm: 1991 - Takin' it to the streets

Nuevamente, un cambio de sello disquero se hizo presente, ésta vez para Music for nations y en la gira promocional, se apuntó la agrupación Crash n' burn como apoyo.

Chris Overland opta por retirarse de la banda y en su lugar, entra Andy Barnett, co-escritor de uno de los temas éxitos de la banda en su primera publicación, That girl. Así mismo, algún tiempo después del lanzamiento, Phil Manchester se marcha de la banda y es relevado por Tony Mitman.

Buen cover el realizado al tema original de Marvin Gaye, I heard it through the grapewine.

Fm: 1992 - Aphrodisiac

Es bien sabido que hasta éste punto de la trayectoria, Fm se mantuvo de forma permanente, pero discreta, en cuanto a popularidad, no obstante, en éste álbum de menor presupuesto, paradójicamente, fue que comenzaron a tener mayor reconocimiento, con ventas cuantiosas.

Closer to heaven, para el '97, fue versionada por el ex-Alien, Pete Sandberg en su álbum solitario Back in business.

Una de mis favoritas producciones de la banda, y entre los temas recomendados figura la espectacular All or nothing.

Fm: 1993 - Closer to heaven

Closer to heaven requirió para su consecución la inclusión de un nuevo teclista. Es así como Tony Mitman es sustituido por el ex miembro de Ufo, Tobruk y Midnight blue, Jem Davies.

Excelentes las versiones acústicas, en especial la correspondiente a Rocky mountain way, original del integrante de The eagles, Joe walsh, que, al escuchar con detenimiento, notamos que entre su letra incluyen también un trozo del tema de Alannah Myles, Black velvet y el remix del tema All or nothing está muy recomendado.

En éste compendio de temas en vivo, nos maravillan con cantidad, calidad y variedad en cuanto a versiones se refiere, sin descuidar a los temas propios de la banda, haciéndolo muy compensado también con las mezclas de algunos de sus temas más conocidos con temas de otras bandas de renombre.

Fm: 1995 - Dead man's shoes

Lanzado con el apoyo del sello Raw power, con un sonido más blusero que en sus entregas precursoras y ciertas críticas no muy alentadoras, excepto por los temas Tattoo needle y por el cover a The tempations, Get ready.

Posterior a su publicación, la banda se disuelve. Andy Barnett junto a Davis y Goldsworthy continuaron en la escena musical bajo el nombre de Andy Barnett's barnstormers y Overland también tuvo algunas presentaciones en solitario en el '96; un año luego de ésto, Goldsworthy acompañado de miembros de Romeo's daughter, ensambla a The slaves.

En el '99, Barnett se vuelve a centrar en crear otro proyecto, ésta vez Xfm, en compañía del vocalista de Midnight blue, Dougie White.

Fm asombró a todos mediante la publicación de éste triple álbum, conformado por dos álbumes en estudio y un álbum en vivo. Muy aplaudible el trabajo realizado en la presentación de Live at the Astoria (suertudos quienes pudieron disfrutar de él en persona), en la fecha de agosto del año 1989.

Ésta joya es el audio correspondiente a su presentación en el Firefest IV, en octubre de 2007, su glorioso regreso a los escenarios, con su espíritu característico y capacidad de captar la atención de centenares en vivo.

Para el mismo, la alineación presente sería Steve Overland, Andy Barnett, Merv Goldsworthy, Pete Jupp y Jem Davies.

Fm: 2010 - Metropolis

Overland, Jupp, Goldsworthy, Kirkpatrick y Davis, vuelven a la carga por más. Ésta vez, con su álbum Metropolis, caracterizado por mantener firmemente la energía característica de la banda a lo largo de todos éstos años que nos han obsequiado de talento genuino, sin descuidar el estilo, con buenas letras y denotando que Fm aún tiene mucho camino por recorrer. Destaco que increíblemente, la voz de Overland no ha manifestado cambios desde los comienzos, siempre se ha mantenido sumamente limpia, inigualable, merecedora de ser elogiada por todos sus seguidores.
