L.A. guns: 1988 - L.A. guns

En el año 1983, el guitarrista Tracii Guns forma la banda con Michael Jagosz (cantante), Ole Beich (bajista) y Rob Gardner (baterista). Michael Jagosz fue enviado a prisión por poco tiempo, siendo reemplazado por Axl Rose. Luego, Axl se retiró a Hollywood Rose, volviendo a la banda Michael Jagosz, luego de haber terminado su proceso judicial. Luego de algunas uniones de las bandas, se crea Guns 'n roses.

Para la segunda alineación de L.A. guns, Tracii recluta a Mau Maus (baterista), Paul Mars Black (vocal) y a Mick Cripps (guitarrista, que cambió a bajo), haciendo equipo con el baterista Nickey "Beat" Alexander. Luego, se unieron con el ex-Dogs D'Amour, Robert Stoddard en la guitarra rítmica. Posteriormente, Paul fue reemplazado por Phil Lewis, de la banda Girl. Mick fue cambiado a guitarra cuando Robert se retiró, para ser parte de Faster pussycat. Kelly Nickels, Estuvo tras el bajo. Fue entonces cuando L.A. Guns graba su album homónimo.

Los éxitos fueron One more reason y Sex action. En la gira de promoción del álbum, Nickey fue reemplazado por el baterista de W.A.S.P., Steve Riley, manteniéndose esta alineación hasta el año 1993.

En 1989, ellos sacan su segundo disco, llamado Cocked & loaded. Contiene la exitosa canción Ballad of Jane. Ésta entrega se convirtió en la cima comercial de su carrera. El album también contiene los éxitos Never enough y Rip and tear.

Durante el 1991, La banda saca su tercer álbum, titulado Hollywood vampires. El disco trae los éxitos Kiss my love goodbye y It's over now.

En el año 1993, Tracii Guns participó en la super banda Contraband.

L.a. guns: 1994 - Vicious circle

En 1994 su cuarto album fue Vicious circle. El baterista Michael "Bones" Gershima participó en partes de la grabación. Phil Lewis despidió a Steve Riley. Después, Riley retorna a la banda por el exitoso tour de Vicious circle. Luego, Phil Lewis y Mick Cripps dejan la banda.

Desde éste álbum, la banda toma una actitud mas poderosa en sus canciones.

L.A. guns: 1996 - American hardcore

En julio de 1996, Tracii Guns y Steve Riley reclutan al vocalista Chris Van Dahl y al guitarrista Johnny Crypt (Boneyard). Seis meses en sesiones de grabación, y Kelly Nickels deja la banda, a Johnny se le preguntó si quería cambiarse a bajo mientras se buscaba a otro integrante.

En 1996, sale a la venta el álbum que lleva por título American hardcore. Éste album se hizo con la fuerte música del disco Vicious circle, proyectando una imagen mas oscura de la banda.

Chris fue reemplazado por el vocalista Ralph Saenz. Tracii, Steve, Johnny y Ralph viajaron por el resto del 1997.

Ralph se retira para formar su propia banda. Joe Lesté de Bang Tango y Jizzy Pearl de Love/Hate fueron considerados para su reemplazo. Tracii y Steve finalmente elijen a Jizzy para salir a giras. L.A. Guns viajó entre 1998 y 1999, entonces editaron éste disco.

En septiembre del 1999, Jizzy y Chuck fueron despedidos de la banda. Mientras que Tracii Guns, Steve Riley, Phil Lewis, Kelly Nickels y Mick Cripps se preparaban para su total reunión. L.A. Guns salió de gira en octubre de 1999 y grabaron este disco en su ciudad, Hollywood. El álbum se llamó A Night on the strip.

Después de la reunión, Mick y Kelly fueron reemplazados por Brent Muscat y el bajista Muddy, respectivamente.
