Pretty maids: 1983 - Pretty maids

Pretty maids es una banda originaria de Dinamarca. La banda se formó en el año 1981, por el guitarrista Ken Hammer (Kenneth Hansen) y originalmente era una banda de covers a Thin Lizzy y Rainbow. La primera formación, tuvo a Hammer, junto al bajista de Attica, John Darrow (Johnny Møller) y al baterista Phil Moorheed (Henrik Andersen).

Al año siguiente, la banda estuvo completa, habiendo reclutado al increíble vocalista de dos voces, Ronnie Atkins (Paul Christensen), al segundo guitarrista Pete Collins (Jan Piete) y al teclista Alan 'Stevie' Owen (Allan Nielsen).

Poco después de haber grabado una serie de demos, aparece un mini disco, titulado Pretty maids.
El álbum se encargó de darle a la banda una sonido inicial más orientado al Heavy metal.
Siguiendo al disco, hubo una pequeña gira en Gran Bretaña, abriendo para Le griffe.

Una de mis bandas favoritas, con una excelente discografía, muy recomendada.

Pretty maids: 1984 - Red, hot and heavy

Luego de grabar otros demos, el guitarrista Pete Collins fue reemplazado por Rick Hansen (Kim Hansen) y John Darrow, por el bajista de Shylock, Allan Delong (Allan Klitgård Jensen).

La banda publica lo que sería realmente su primer disco, titulado Red hot and heavy, que incluyó los demos, y algunos con cambio de nombre. Fue publicado en el sello Epic en Dinamarca, luego de haber muy bien catalogados por Bernard Doe en la revista Metal forces.

Al terminar el disco, Hansen se retira, y Collins vuelve a la banda.

En 1983, abrieron la presentación de Black sabbath en Dinamarca, como promoción de su disco.
También actuaron en unas presentaciones en Bélgica y Polonia, junto a Hanoi rocks, antes de apoyar a Saxon en Gran Bretaña, en 1985. El 14 de septiembre, estuvieron en Alemania, en el llamado Metal hammer fest, junto a Nazareth, Venom, Heavy pettin', Wishbone ash, Savage grace, Running wild, Tyran pace, Metallica y Warlock.

Pretty maids: 1987 - Future world

Volvieron al estudio, para grabar el disco Future world. Disco que lo produjo Eddie Kramer, en Nueva york. Cuatro de esas canciones fueron mezcladas por Kevin Elson en San Fransisco, y el luego acreditado miembro de Metallica, Flemming Rasmussen, mezcló el resto, en Copenhagen. El disco se publicó en abril de 1987, y el vocalista de Rainbow y Michael Schenker group, Graham Bonnet estuvo presente en los coros.
El disco presenta un toque mucho más Hard rock que en sus anteriores entregas.

Para sus presentaciones en vivo, abrieron por tres semanas para Deep purple en Europa y apareciendo en los festivales Monsters of rock, en Alemania, incluyendo al guitarrista Gerhardt Schleifer (Angel Schleifer). A finales de 1988, Schleifer deja la banda, para ingresar a Bonfire, siendo reemplazado por Ricky Marx (Henrik Mark).

Pretty maids: 1990 - Jump the gunPretty maids: 1990 - Lethal heroes

Jump the gun, se publicó en abril de 1990. Participó como artista invitado, el baterista de Deep purple, Ian Paice y lo produjo el bajista de Deep purple, Roger Glover. El baterista Phil Moorhead, quien había ayudado en reiteradas ocasiones a la banda, sufrió un accidente automovilístico durante las sesiones.
Primeramente, fue en agosto de 1989 que la grabación había sido mezclada, pero no tuvo los resultados esperados. Volviendola a mezclar al próximo mes.
Para el mercado de EEUU, el disco fue re-titulado Lethal heroes.

Para ese septiembre, la banda se presentó por primera vez en Japón.
En otras fechas, estuvieron abriendo la presentación de Alice Cooper.

Pretty maids: 1990 - In santa's claws

Para octubre de 1990, la banda lanza su EP navideño, In santa's claws. En el tema A merry jingle, estuvo presente el vocalista de Deep purple, Ian Gillan, que era un cover de Sex pistols y Thin lizzy. Dominic Gale fue el teclista para los dos temas de estudio. Los temas en vivo, fueron grabados en el festival Rockilde, en 1990.

Pretty maids: 1991 - Sin-decade

A principios del año 1991, Delong, el baterista Moorhead y el guitarrista Ricky Marx, se separan de la banda.
Al mismo año, la banda celebró sus diez años, con el disco Sin-decade, y Flemming Rasmussen estuvo tras la producción de la obra.
La banda en ese entonces, estaba compuesta por Atkins, Hammer, el bajista de White mountain, Ken Jackson (Kenn Lund Jacobsen), y el baterista Michael Fast (Michael Petersen), quien después sería miembro de la banda de heavy metal, Hero.
Para su gira, viajaron por Europa y Japón.

Para 1993, la banda publica Stripped, que tiene un estilo más suave que sus anteriores entregas y que tuvo fuertes ventas en Asia.
En el año 1994, la banda deja Sony music y firma con el sello alemán, Massacre records.

Para enero de 1995, publican Scream, con Flemming Rasmussen en la producción.
Pretty maids, tuvo varias presentaciones en Europa. También estuvo junto a Van halen y a Page/Plant.

En febrero de 1997, Tommy Hansen produjo Spooked, disco en el que se incluyó el cover a KISS, Hard luck woman, entre otros temas nunca antes grabados por la banda.

Pretty maids: 2003 - Alive at least

Hasta el año 2003, la banda estuvo en presentaciones por Europa y Japón, lo que se vio reflejado en el disco Alive at least.
En diciembre, a Ken Hammer se le encontró un coágulo en el corazón. Luego de recuperarse, vuelve a la banda a principios del 2004.
En el mismo año, la banda Withering surface, le hizo un cover al tema Future world, para la versión japonesa de su disco Force the pace.

Pretty maids salió de gira con el teclista Jacob Troutner. Entre las presentaciones, estuvo junto a Hammerfall en Gotemburgo, el 30 de abril.

Para abril del 2006, la banda confirmó su disco, y firmó contrato con Frontiers Records, en Europa, y con los japoneses JVC Victor entertainment.

El baterista de Royal hunt y Kingdom come, Allan Tschicaja, reemplazó a Michael Fast.
Para la presentación del festival alemán, Bang your head, el teclista de Mercenary, Morten Sandager, estuvo entre sus filas.
