China: 1988 - China

China se fundó en 1987, por el baterista John Dommen y el guitarrista Freddy Laurence. El dúo rápidamente hizo equipo con el vocalista Math Shiverow, el ex-guitarrista de Bloody six, Claudio Matteo y el bajista de Stormbringer, Marc Lynn.

Teniendo un contrato con Polygram, la banda recibió la ayuda del vocalista de Krokus, Marc Storace; quien contribuyó con coros, en el disco debut de la banda. También tuvieron la ayuda del guitarrista de Krokus, Fernando Von Arb, quien escribió el tema Back to you. El disco fue producido por Dirk Steffans.

Ya publicado su disco homónimo, el quinteto suizo fue de soporte en la gira de Victory por Alemania el año 1988. También abrieron el espectáculo para Bonfire, hasta que le ocurrió un accidente al guitarrista de los alemanes, que forzó a que la gira fuera cancelada.

China: 1990 - Sign in the sky

En el segundo álbum de la banda, la banda cambió de productor, a Stephen Galfas (luego de que quedaron decepcionados con el trabajo de Dirk Steffans en su disco debut).

El disco marcó una nueva era para la banda, trayendo al guitarrista de Crown y Krokus, Patrick Mason y al ex-bajista de Killer, Briam Kofmehl, reemplazando a Math Shiverow y Marc Lynn, respectivamente. La grabación incluye los coros del vocalista de Grim reaper, Steve Grimmett.
